What Is Shared Ownership?

You buy an initial share in your new homes - usually between 25% and 75% - and you pay a discounted rent on the remaining share. The share you buy will be the most you can afford based on a financial assessment. Then, if your financial circumstances change, you can buy further shares as and when it is appropriate to you, and in most cases you can own your home outright.

It does not mean that you have to share your home with anyone! Not just for first time buyers!

Eligibility

You are not eligible to apply if you:
-Already own a home, or
-Are selling your current home but it is not yet under offer (sold subject to contract).

Basic shared ownership criteria:
-You cannot afford to buy a similar home on the open market.
-You do not have any County Court Judgements (CCJs) against you.
-Your household income does not exceed £80,000.
-You can afford the mortgage and deposit for the share you wish to purchase, or you have enough equity to buy the share.
-You do not own another property (if you do, it must be sold before completing on the shared ownership home).
